I think this woman at my gym thinks I’m stalking her? What should I do?

Peaceville asked:

I wasn’t going to ask this question but finally decided to after tonight. I changed the names as to not incriminate anyone in any way. This is kinda long, so if you don’t want to read anything long, don’t read.

3 days ago I was at the gym, and as I’m ready to get on the exercise bike, this woman is on an exercise machine talking to another member, Paul, and she looks in my general direction and says “Oh my God… Oh my God…” in a disgusted voice. I honestly did not think she was referring to me because I wasn’t doing anything other than adjusting the seat on the bike and getting ready to get on the bike. I figured she was talking about something else. So I thought nothing of it and worked out.

Then the next day, I arrive to the gym, and she’s on the same machine talking to the same guy, and as I pass her on the way to the men’s locker room, I hear her exclaim “right on time” in a sarcastic way. Still, I think nothing of it. When I change and come out the locker room, I’m on my cellphone talking to my dad. And I see her and her friend glance at me and mutter something. I head to the mat to stretch while still talking to my dad. And I hear her say something like “He’s not even picking anything up!” It sounded like she may have been talking about me being on the phone. For the record, yes, you can pick up cellphone signals in the gym (at least where I was) so I don’t know what she was talking about. Still, I think nothing of it because I know I have a history of being paranoid and thinking someone is talking about me when they’re not. I figured it was just a coincidence. I get on a weight machine and the whole time I hear her talking to Paul, and he’s responding to her, saying something like “I’ve seen him here for years and he seems like a nice guy. Maybe he’s just quiet.” I’m guessing they were talking about me but doing it in a way that they made it seem like they were talking about something else. Then I heard him say “Oh, so you’ve noticed a pattern, huh?” I couldn’t really hear her. Then as she’s leaving he says something to her like “You’re racking your brain over this… maybe talk to Reggie.” Reggie is the head trainer at the gym and oversees activities in that part of the gym. And she leaves. Still, I figure they can’t be talking about me.

The third day I didn’t hear her say anything but I thought I saw her glancing at me in the mirror with a disgusted look on her face once or twice. But I basically ignored her because I was just trying to focus on my workout. It’s possible something to her friend later while I was in another part of the gym, but I wouldn’t know.

And tonight, she arrives right as I’m wrapping up my workout. I do some stretching and head to the locker room. I get dressed and go to wash my hands. Reggie walks in the locker room, but not to do anything. He throws something in the trash and leaves. I thought it was odd. After done washing my hands, I leave. Reggie is talking to the woman, and the woman on the machine looks in my direction and says “Oh… Jesus Christ”. I’m very intuitive and pick up on things real well, and I’m guessing she told Reggie to go in the locker room to see what I’m doing. Anyway, there have been way too many coincidences and now after tonight, I’m about 90-95% sure that all those comments she’s made in the past 4 workouts at the gym were about me.

Now let me try to fill in the blanks to give you the whole story:

I’ve been a member of this gym since 2006. And started coming off-and-on as a guest in 2005. I remember seeing her as far back as 2005 (since I started coming there). I’ll be perfectly honest, I have stared at her a couple times. She’s a female, I’m a male, and I did “check her out” a few times. And I think she’s caught me a couple times. But that’s it. But I think that’s normal, because guys do that all the time. And I’ve caught women checking me out. I remember a woman that has stared at my crotch, and another woman that was staring at my butt as I worked out (I saw her reflection in the mirror). Not to mention stares from possibly gay men. But I am definitely not “stalking”. She seems to be in about her mid 30’s, and I’m in my mid 20’s.

At one point in 2007, I’d see her almost daily for weeks on end because our workout schedules were around the same time. In 2008 however, I’ve worked out the same time as her a total of maybe 7 times. And this year, maybe 4 or 5 times. It’s not like I see her every day.

I’m also quiet and keep to myself there, and I’m aware that this type of personality might unease people. But I go to the gym to workout, not socialize. But I do talk to a couple people. I’ve talked to both Reggie and Paul on rare occassions, and I believe that’s why Paul vouched for me when she was complaining, because he figured I was “normal”.

I’ve never had an incident with anyone at any gym. Like I said, I just keep to myself, workout for a couple hours, and leave. I’ve seen her get in an incident with someone else b
I’ve never had an incident with anyone at any gym. Like I said, I just keep to myself, workout for a couple hours, and leave. I’ve seen her get in an incident with someone else before. I remember her arguing with some woman because the woman was talking on a cellphone, and technically cellphone use is forbidden in the gym. And they had a back-and-forth exchange. She doesn’t seem like a friendly person. Sure, she socializes with Reggie & Paul, but I believe that’s because both those guys are very outgoing and social. Reggie the trainer is like some kind of ladies’ man that talks to every woman that works out there. And Paul is loud, boisterous, and talks to everyone period.

But my question is, what should I do? I tried to ignore it and just work out, but now if it continues I’m thinking about talking to Reggie. I don’t want to talk to her about it because she’s a woman and I’m not trying to get conflictive with a woman. And she’d probably be freaked out anyways. But I can’t go to a g
But I can’t go to a gym with someone saying “Oh God” and “Jesus Christ” everytime they see my face. It’s a form of harrassment. She probably doesn’t realize that I’m probably as scared of her as she is of me. Like I said, I don’t get in incidents with people at gyms. I don’t know if she’s going to try to report me, attack me, go off verbally on me, or what. In a way it makes me angry and defiant and I’ll just continue going to the gym, because I’ve done nothing wrong.
David B: Not after tonight, she looked directly at me saying “Oh Jesus Christ”. Too many coincidences. If her constant negative comments continue, I may talk to Reggie the trainer.

I feel as I’m being harrassed at the gym?

I belong to gym and I workout early in the morning, before I go to work.

There is this woman that peeks through the stall when I’m in the bathroom.

There is usually, no one around and I would hear her, but never heard her go into a stall. One morning, I was looking through the door and wall and I saw her come up and see me.

She saw that I saw her and she rushed out.

Now I keep my eyes out for her. I’ve told management, but they say they don’t know her last name, so they haven’t been able to talk to her.

This morning there was another woman that she was talking to and she also came into the bathroom. Not sure what is going on. When I come out of the restroom, she just starred at me.

Any ideas as to what steps I should take?

I threw my back - how often do I need to exercise?

sarah asked:

First, thanks for reading. :)
A little background story first. I’m a 28 years old woman and up until about a month ago, I have NEVER worked out/exercised in my life…on a regular basis, that is. Sure, I’ve used treadmill, went for swimming, aerobic, all of those just here and there, but not on a consistant basis, whatsoever.

And about a month ago, something struck me and I decided to dedicate myself on a regular workout from that point. Since then, I watch what I eat and exercised EVERY SINGLE DAY for about an hour - 30 mins yoga and another 20 mins elliptical machine.

After about a month of everyday workout as above, I skipped exercising for two days straight due to my busy work schedule, and boom! The next morning, I couldn’t get up; I threw my back out! It went gradually better over the course of past week and now I’m all better, but as Im about to start exercising regularily, I’m so scared of a possibility of throwing out my back again!

First and foremost, what do you guys think was a cause of this incident? Did I work out too hard everyday all of sudden after 20 something years of practically no exercise?

And secondly, how often should I exercise from this point? Every other day or so? Can I at least do light stretching/yoga everyday?

Thanks for reading a long post and your answers in advance! :)

Body Fat question?

July 8th, 2009 by admin | 1 Comment | Filed in Fitness
zerohourx asked:

I realize that the body distributes fat throughout the body and despositing excess fat in key areas, depending on gender (ie. abdomin for men, waist/butt for women). Let’s call it the excess storage area.

My question is when we work out and build muscle, what is the order of priority for where the body goes to extract energy to feed these muscles? For example during a workout Im guessing the body extracts energy from the blood stream to converting carbs to energy, then if carbs run out it uses any protein/aa into energy, then if this runs out it uses the fat storage in the “specific region” where the muscle is being worked out. Is this correct?

AFter a workout Im guessing the body goes through the same sequence, the blood stream for carbs, then protein, then body fat in the specific region that needs it, then if this gets too low it finally accesses the excess storage area to release some energy into the blood stream. Is this correct or is the excess storage area used sooner?

Are you plain; does it ever depress you?

July 6th, 2009 by admin | 12 Comments | Filed in Fitness
luvbichons asked:

I’m very plain looking. I’m thin and I workout and sometimes when I have a pretty dress and high heels on, I think that I might get some flirty eyes from men, but men never look at me that way. Usually I’m fine with it; I really never think about it. But, today I went out with a female friend and she got so much male attention and two men even came up to her and gave her business cards. I didn’t even know there were women who lived like this. I guess it could get annoying, but I was so jealous and I felt very depressed about being so plain looking.

I’ve lived 29 years in this beauty obsessed culture. I wish I could feel what it’s like just once to be beautiful. Most of the time, I never think about it, but sometimes I really grieve not being pretty. How do others deal with this?
I’ve only gotten 3 answers to this question and I’m already annoyed. I just hate it when people say to accentuate your features. I already do that to the best of my abilities. I know a lot of women who do this and trust me there are men who judge them harshly everyday or don’t even give them a second look. There is absolutely nothing in the world I could ever ever ever do to get the kind of attention that my friend got today. She is beautiful and men like to look at her and flirt with her. That was not my lot in life; my genetics did not conspire to make me attractive. No haircut or lip gloss is going to make a difference. Sometimes that makes me sad. I’ve never broached the subject with any of my female friends b/c it would be awkward as ass to say “how do you deal with being plain.” I just wanted to know if other people feel this way.

Need some help figuring out what these fatigue symptoms mean. WebMD no help

July 5th, 2009 by admin | 2 Comments | Filed in Fitness
SciFiGuy asked:

Ok, this is definitely a bit long, but I made it as detailed as I could to narrow down what it might be. If you think you can help please read it all the way through.

To start, I’m a 24 year old male 5 foot 8 158lbs. I’ve recently gotten into great shape through a workout program P90X, coming down from 195 lbs in mid March. Daily (since March), I take a 1-a-Day multivitamin, a post workout recovery formula, and I eat 5 times a day on a schedule An example of my daily eating so we can rule in or out my food intake:

Breakfast - 1 cup Total cereal 8oz Skim Milk
Snack - Banana, Apple, or Nature Valley Granola Bar
Lunch - Variety of Campbell’s healthier soups or a Veggie Wrap
Snack - Egg Beaters (weight lifting day) or apple/pear etc (cardio day)
Workout
Dinner - Beef, Chicken, Fish, Whole Grain pasta etc, always with a side of 2 -3 veggies
I rarely drink anything other than water, V-8 and Crystal Light, but mostly just water and I drink plenty every day (by my first snack my urine stream is almost clear and stays that way all day)

When I was losing weight I took in around 1200-1500 calories a day, now I take in about 1750-2000. I wouldn’t say I sleep like a baby, but I generally get 6.5-7.5 hours and very rarely 6 or less. Now onto the symptoms

Recently, I’ve been getting very very fatigued out of the blue. This has happened to me on and off all my life, usually 5-15 times in a 3 month to 1 year span and then disappearing again for months or years. The earliest I remember it is around 6 years old. This time around it’s much more pronounced. First I’ll get what seems similar to post-menopausal women’s hot flashes. It’ll feel like the room is suddenly(over a 5 minute span) 20 degrees hotter and stuffy and I’ll break out into a light sweat just sitting there. Soon I feel slightly dizzy, but mostly it’s a keen sense of rubbery, shaky legs and elbows. My hands are usually surgeon-still when I hold them up but in this state they’re slightly shaky. I’m not tired or sleepy whatsoever, but I’ll feel totally exhausted like if you’re up 36-40 hours straight or got 3-4 hours of sleep a couple nights in a row. It’s that same deep-bone weariness. The weak feeling lasts 3-6 hours and departs as suddenly as it arrived, over about a 5-15 minute span. Usually when this has happened I’d just ignore it or take a break from playing (when I was a kid) but this time around it’s real bad, I went home from work because of it last night and also this time I felt really ‘wrong’. I can’t describe it better, it just seemed something worse was going to happen, like I’d faint or have a seizure or something. My chest felt almost fluttery, but I checked my heartbeat and it was strong, slow and regular during this ‘episode’. (64 beats a minute, timed twice for 15 seconds) The fatigue usually hits mid day, yesterdays came about 3 hours after I’d gotten up.

To finish - I have no food allergies(also I’ve noted what I ate previous to these ‘episodes’ and I don’t think it’s something I’m eating). I don’t smoke or use any illegal drugs. I drink very little, usually 1-2 beers or 1-2 mixed drinks less than once a week. I’m not on any prescription medication. The only other pills I take are aspirins for occasional headaches. I do technically have asthma, but I haven’t had a true attack in almost 7 years and I only use my inhaler 3-4 times a year just to catch my breath if I feel a shortness of breath. I have no medical history that stands out and other than a severe reaction to poison ivy years ago, my trips to the hospital have all been injury related. My last physical was 4 months ago for a new job and everything checked out fine. I’ve never fainted, passed out, has a seizure, panic attack or anything like that. I’m not stressed out, depressed or unhappy. I’d best describe my mental and physical state (other than this fatigue thing) as ‘normal’. Other than when fatigued I usually feel great.

I’d simply go to the doctors about this but I became dissatisfied and left my primary care physician 3 months ago and due to a very busy schedule I haven’t had time to find a new one. An E.R. visit is over 100 bucks with my insurance and I really can’t afford it unless I really need to go.

Thank you in advance for reading this short novel and thank you for any advice you can give!

Black Powder NOS for woman?

July 2nd, 2009 by admin | 1 Comment | Filed in Fitness
Jill M asked:

I am a 19 year old female who is serious about working out. I’m about 5′3″ and 120 lbs.I recently purchased wheybolic for protein after my workouts as well as black powder nos to get me amped pre work out. I don’t take the full serving (1 cup) but take maybe about 2/3 cup with my water. However, someone told me yesterday that it is doing nothing for me and because I’m a woman I can’t break down some of the stuff that’s in it so I just end up peeing it out and getting nothing out of it for my workout. I’m not sure if I’ve noticed too much of a difference after taking it because I’m afraid maybe its just a placebo affect. Is this true that some pre workout supplements don’t work for woman? Thanks!
